Kamakura, an hour train ride southbound from Tokyo area.
Beach and Nature
Though it is known for being the capital of Japan during the 12th century and the abundance of ancient temples including the Big Buddha “Daibutsu”, the town resides in nature with several beaches and some woody green area.
Yuigahama beach is the closest beach from Kamakura station, about 15 min walk thru the town.
If taking “Enoden”, the local single track train connecting Kamakura with Enoshima to Fujisawa, getting off at either Wadazuka, Yuigahama, or Hase would be a closer walk.
(Be careful of packed train during high season and days.)
Kamakura and surrounding Shonan area is also where surfing culture started in Japan. The recent boom in surfing makes people attracted to the beach, where you can find the beach full of surfers when the swell hits.
